Donald Trump's newly appointed campaign manager on Thursday said that while Roger Ailes and the GOP nominee have been "friends for decades" and that they certainly talk, the former Fox News chief is not formally assisting the campaign on the upcoming presidential debates, as reported earlier in the week.

Asked on CNN if Ailes is helping with debates, Kellyann Conway responded, "No not to my knowledge," later adding there is "no formal position for Roger Ailes."

"They are friends and he talks to talk to many people and he talks to many people when we are not around. So it's not for me to say," Conway said.

Conway was promoted to campaign manager this week after a massive shakeup in Trump's campaign leadership.
