Polaneczky said that she was looking into how the picture was inserted into her story. She does not handle the layout or images, so she was shocked by the mixup.

"It makes you want to bash your head against a wall," Polaneczky told NBC10. "I'm mortified."

Polaneczky said that she hopes people will read the piece, called "She Can Vault Over the Vitriol," despite the picture mixup. In the piece, she describes the hatred that has been leveled at Douglas and suggested that the vitriol meant she was doing well.

"We ran a photo of @Simone_Biles with an uplifting column today about Gabby Douglas. We screwed up. We are embarrassed, and we apologize," Michael Days, editor of the Daily News, tweeted out after the mistake.
