British base jumper David Reader died after succumbing to injuries sustained when his parachute failed to open during a jump in the French Alps.
In a freak accident, Reader, 25, plummeted to the ground near Mont Blanc, the highest mountain in the Alps. He sustained a severe head wound and several injuries to his body.
After the incident, Reader was airlifted to the hospital and put in a coma but was pronounced dead shortly after he arrived.
"He was quiet and reserved but so warm, loving and fun to those who took the time to get to know him," Reader's girlfriend, Domi Kiger, said on Facebook. "I can barely start grasping the void he is leaving in my life. I know I'm not the only one who will miss him."
After his passing, Reader underwent a successful procedure to donate his organs, which doctors say could save six lives.
