Young boy found trying to sell teddy bear for food
Police found a hungry 7-year-old boy wandering around Franklin, Ohio trying to sell his Teddy bear to get money for food.
According to WLWT, Officer Steve Dunham discovered the child in front of a CVS store.
The officer took the boy to a nearby Subway and got him something to eat.
"We said a little a prayer and ate dinner together," he told WLWT.
They then went to the Franklin Police Department to watch cartoons according to The Washington Post.
The child's parents, Tammy and Michael Bethel, are facing child endangerment charges.
Authorities found their four other boys living in "squalor."
The kids, ages 11, 12, 15 and 17, slept in a home full of garbage, cockroaches and liquor bottles, and the smell of urine hung in the air.
According to a police report obtained by the Journal-News, officials said the Bethels created "a substantial risk of health and safety by neglecting the cleanliness in the residence, having a large amount of bugs and spoiled food throughout the residence, not having properly prepared and packaged food for the minor children to eat, and allowing a 7-year-old to wander from the residence without their permission or knowledge, in an attempt to locate food."
The Journal-News stated that all five children were removed from the house and placed with relatives.
