Don't miss your chance to see the Perseid meteor shower light up the sky.

It only happens once a year, and this year it's going to be better than ever.

Expect to see 150 to 200 streaks of light illuminate the sky.

Which is more than the 80 seen typically every August.

The Perseid meteor shower happens when Earth's atmosphere smashes into floating debris.

These pieces of debris were left behind from the Comet Swift-Tuttle which passed Earth in 1992.

The comet was discovered in 1862 by Lewis Swift and Horace Tuttle. It orbits the Sun every 133 years and won't pass Earth again until 2126.

The Perseids meteor shower got its name because it lies in the constellation Perseus.

The best time to see it is between midnight and dawn.

Expect an "outburst" of meteors at double the rate from the evening of August 11 into the next morning, but you can catch the meteor shower at its normal rate until August 24.

The best way to see it is by finding a dark sky and giving 45 minutes to let your eyes adjust to darkness.

We promise it's well worth the wait!
