A man in Leroy, Alabama is under investigation in connection to the death of an alleged burglar, notes WPMI.

On Friday, Nathaniel Johnson, age 68, took it upon himself to stop a wave of neighborhood robberies.

According to his report to authorities, he sat in his home waiting for the perpetrator to strike.

When he heard somebody cutting the lock on his back door, he ran outside and tackled 31-year-old Cleveland Gully.

Johnson then used clothesline and electrical wire to tie Gully to a tree and covered the man's mouth with tape, according to WALA.

He reportedly went to a neighbors house and called 911, but, when authorities arrived roughly 10 minutes later, Gully was dead.

Washington County Sheriff Richard Stringer says that other than some cuts from the wire, Gully suffered no apparent injuries.

It remains unknown what caused the alleged burglar's death and if charges will be filed against Johnson.
