Mother streams beating of her daughter on Facebook Live: 'I'm gonna need y'all to send this viral'

A Georgia woman apparently infuriated by her daughter's perceived promiscuity dispensed punishment for the whole world to see, broadcasting to Facebook Live as she beat the teen girl for more than five minutes.

"So, now, you wanna try me right? You wanna be a little THOT on Facebook, right?" Shanavia Miller said as the live feed began, walking toward her 16-year-old daughter before smacking her with an object. THOT stands for "that hoe over there."

Miller accused her daughter of embarrassing her by posting sexy photos of herself on Facebook and of having sex in her Savannah home.

"That s*** cute? You're 16, right? You're only f****** 16!" Miller shouts at her sobbing daughter as she hits her with what appeared to be a piece of plastic.

The outraged mom continued to slap the girl across her face and body as the teen tried shielding herself and crouched in a corner.

"I work too hard! You wanna drive me f****** crazy? Hell no!" Miller yelled.

After about four minutes, Miller takes the camera from an unidentified person filming and turns it on herself, fixes her hair and addressed those watching the feed as it streamed on her daughter's Facebook page.

"This is my f***** Facebook page now," she said, bringing the camera closer to her daughter as the crying girl tries to cover her face. "Now, I'm gonna need y'all to send this viral, please share this. 'Cause I'm not done, more to come."

As if catering to the woman's request, the video quickly went viral, as thousands of people watched the footage on Facebook and on YouTube.

Many viewers expressed outrage that the mother went too far, while others felt the discipline was appropriate.

"If the daughter was an unrelated adult, the mother would have been brought up on assault charges," one person commented. "Suggestion to the mother; If you find out one day that your daughter is in an abusive relationship and want to know why your daughter chooses to accept and stay in the relationship, look back over this video, I'm sure you'll find some answers here."

Another person wrote: "Amen! We wouldn't have the trouble we do these days if more kids got the smack down. I did. I deserved it. I'm good now! God bless my mom and the beatings."

Some commenters wondered why nothing was done to put a stop to the beating.

"Stop recording and call the cops," one person wrote.

The Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department did in fact receive several phone calls from concerned citizens who saw the Facebook Live video, spokeswoman Darnisha Green told InsideEdition.com.

"The Special Victims Unit has looked in to the case and officers have spoken directly with the mother and daughter," Green said. "Although the daughter says she feels safe in her home, the case has been referred to the Department of Children and Family Services for follow-up."

No one has been charged in connection to the video, but the incident is still under investigation, Green said. It was unclear if the social services agency has taken any action.

Miller released a statement on what occurred in a post on her 16-year-old's Facebook page.

"I love my daughter with all my heart what ever(sic) happens after this o well," Miller wrote. "My daughter is not going to disrespect me or herself for nobody ... Ain't nothing change she still my baby ... lesson learned now have a blessed day."

Her daughter also responded on social media, saying in another post that she took responsibility for what occurred.

"First off I shouldn't [have] embarrassed my momma, I love her," the girl wrote. "I shouldn't even been doing what I did."

The livestreamed incident occurred over the weekend after Miller reportedly discovered her daughter had posted pictures to Facebook of a boy in a towel she believed had been taken in her home.

"I was at his house ... I'm only 16 yrs old," the teen wrote, noting she had not yet told her mother that she was sexually active and was trying to figure out how to break the news.

"I understand why she did what she did," the girl wrote.

She said she went to the hospital after the incident to be treated for a head ache and anxiety attack.

"I embarrassed my momma so she embarrassed me," the girl wrote. "I know next time to just keep my business to myself."

Neither Miller nor her daughter has responded to InsideEdition.com's request for comment.
