14-year-old girl dies after being struck by lightning

Last week, a teenage girl passed away after being struck by lightning. The 14-year-old, named Brooklyn Reynolds, was on vacation with her family in Flaming George, Utah. She was on the back of a jet ski while her stepmother, 49-year old Jayleen Reynolds, was driving.

The two were close to shore when a storm began. Brooklyn was struck, sending both her and Jayleen into the water.

Briana James, Brooklyn's stepsister, described the accident: "We were in the no-wake zone it was just coming in we were inches from the dock it felt like and the very first lightning strike was...that was it."

"You just seen a flash and the noise is something you'll never forget the loudest crack you've never heard in your life," she continued.

Brooklyn's father rushed both Brooklyn and Jayleen to shore. They attempted CPR and got doctors and nurses on the scene, but it was too late.

Jayleen was injured from the incident, but survived.

"I wish the end result was better. I wish we could have both of them here just a complete freak accident," James said.

Now, Brooklyn's family and friends are trying to cope with the tragedy, which investigators called a "freak accident."

"We're just trying to remember the sweet spirit she is, keep her close to us and do what we can do always remember her and be there for everybody," said Shaleen Olsen, Brooklyn's aunt.

A GoFundMe account has been created to help Brooklyn's family with funeral costs.
