This optical illusion is baffling the internet

The latest optical illusion sweeping the internet is leaving many baffled. What looks like a simple picture is actually, very confusing. The picture features a drawing of bars, but no one can figure out how many bars are in the picture.

How many bars did you count?

If you count the bars from the bottom ends your answer would be eight -- but it's not that simple. Count the bars from the top and you will get seven, that's where the optical illusion comes into play.

There are actually only six bars in the picture. From the top, there are clearly five distinct bars. Things get tricky between the fifth and sixth bar. The extra lines don't form full bars, but there is a full one on the end, making six total bars.
