NYPD: No solo foot patrols after 3 officers are killed in Baton Rouge
NEW YORK (WPIX) — All uniformed members of the NYPD must remain in pairs Sunday following a shooting in Baton Rouge that left three officers dead, a police source confirms.
"All uniform members of service shall arrive and remain on post together. All meals and personal breaks will also be taken in pairs," the memo stated.
The advisory also reminded officers to "think tactically and remain vigilant at all times."
Additionally, a uniformed officer will be visible to civilians approaching or entering station houses.
The directive came the morning three officers were killed and three others were injured in a Baton Rouge shooting.
The situation remains ongoing, and at least one gunman has been killed. It is not clear if there were multiple shooters.
This is at least the second time the nation's largest police department has stepped up security this month.
The first occurred after five Dallas police officers were killed 10 days ago during a protest against two recent shootings of African-American men.
