Utah nominates country's first transgender Senate nominee
Utah just nominated the country's first major-party transgender Senate nominee. Transgender store cashier, Misty Snow, won the Utah Democratic Party's Senate nomination.
Snow says her goal is to help working class people like herself. Her platform includes the raising of minimum wage as well as advocating for LGBT and women's rights.
She beat Jonathan Swinton who was originally favored to win the primary. She earned 55% of the delegate vote at the Utah Democratic National Convention.
On her win, Snow told the press, "This shows LGBT people that being LGBT is not a barrier to running for political office. You can be you, and people will respect you for that."
