This company is developing a breathalyzer for pot

You might be familiar with breathalyzers when it comes to alcohol, but a Canadian company is making one for detecting pot.

The breathalyzer is a device used by the police to check suspects of DUI for traces of alcohol in their blood. The suspect breathes into a tube connected to the device and the results are immediately displayed on the screen.

Now that cannabis is legal in different forms across half of the United States, there has been much research around ways to identify new kinds of DUI where the influence is not the one of alcohol.

The pot breathalyzer is still in prototype stage but according to Barry Knott, CEO of breathalyzer company Lifeloc they will begin with a simple product that shows either a 'yes' or a 'no' for the presence of THC in the subject.

As Reuters reported, the company currently sells its alcohol breathalyzers for $300-$400 but plans to charge $2,500-$3,000 for the cannabis version.
