In Dream Big, Live Small, we visit tiny home-dwellers, discovering why they choose to live this way, how they manage it and the possibilities to do things like travel, learn and grow that have resulted from downsizing so significantly. In the long run, living small is really about living big.
When you make the big leap to live tiny and build your own tiny home, the creativity you put into the design can be endless.
In this episode of Dream Big, Live Small, you’ll get a glimpse inside the funkiest little Claremont, New Hampshire home, which was designed by movie set designers who had lots of leftover props to use as building materials.
“Film and other similar like projects can be all over the country, so this provides us a way to travel to the job, still stay in our home and pack up and leave when it’s over,” one of the homeowners said.
Inspired by gypsy caravans and vintage train cars and boats, the home was built with unusual odds and ends. One of the most noticeable features is the ship’s wheel, which is actually used as the mechanism to raise and lower the roof in order for the walls to extend.
At 12.5 by 8.5 feet, this home is tiny, yet the inside packs a lot of punch.
The couple finds vintage pieces at flea markets and antique stores to add touches of charm throughout the home. The inside is just as exciting as the outside design, yet it’s still a multi-functional living space. Plus, you have to see the gorgeous hand-painted lattice ceiling!
