Peter Thomas Roth's hand sanitizer now comes in a new look and 'mega-sized' option

Trusted skincare brand Peter Thomas Roth launched its first hand sanitizer product in early April 2020 in response to the massive shortage across the country.

Formulated with an 80 percent alcohol concentration to align with the CDC’s 60 to 95 percent recommendation, the product has been a massive seller off the jump. And though less than a month has passed since its initial launch, the relatively new pick has been given a makeover and is now available in a brand new “mega-sized” option.

The A-list-celebrity-loved skincare brand’s best-selling hand sanitizer still boasts the spray form factor it was initially introduced with. However, the packaging has been changed to a wider bottle with a white/black spray nozzle (the color is relative to the size selected), as opposed to the thin, matte white tubular bottle and chrome-finished nozzle seen on the initial release.

The newer version of the FDA-approved product features the same 80 percent topical solution formula, though it is now available in both the standard 2 fl. oz. size as well as a newly introduced 6 fl. oz. bottle.

As previously reported, this hand sanitizer was purposefully created to remedy the shortage across the country. Though the brand explained that it has “a limited amount” in stock, we have noticed that these hand sanitizers are yet to sell out on the retailer’s native website.

Adding to the noble motivation for creating this product, the brand has outlined that it is “donating 5,000 hand sanitizers to hospital workers on the front lines at Northwell Health Hospitals, New York State’s largest health care provider.”

Since its launch, several shoppers have critiqued the brand for attaching $10 and $16 price tags to a type of product that other brands like Aloe Chok Chok and 100% Pure sell for $4 and $5, respectively.

However, in addition to Peter Thomas Roth’s formula including a higher alcohol percentage — both competitive brands’ formulas contain only 62 percent alcohol — the brand is also donating some of its inventory to benefit those in need.

“I can understand that you think this product is expensive for what it’s worth but ingredients are hard to come by and so is packaging and over head,” one shopper wrote. “Yes during non pandemic times this would be expensive but for the now we are in, it is what it is.”

Shoppers are limited to 10 hand sanitizers per purchase. It should also be noted that, while this product’s concentration of alcohol fits within the CDC and FDA’s guidelines, it is not specifically formulated to kill viruses.
