HBO Max is here!

The latest addition to the streaming wars launches May 27 in the U.S. HBO Max is different from HBO Go and HBO Now, which are the platforms designated for cable subscribers and non-cable users respectively. The new platform has HBO’s properties and offerings from Warner Media and DC Comics as well.

Users can sign up for $15 per month to access the 10,000 hours of movies and television. Familiar TV favorites like “Friends,” “Rick and Morty” and “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” will stream along with recent blockbusters like “Crazy Rich Asians,” “A Star is Born” and “Joker.” Diehard cinephiles can look forward to titles from the Criterion Collection and Studio Ghibli’s full library.

HBO Max also includes a new catalog of original content, such as a rom-com series starring Anna Kendrick called “Love Life” and “Craftopia,” a kids reality TV series. More programming awaits later this year, like the anticipated “Friends” reunion special, along with new seasons of “Doom Patrol” and “Search Party.” Some highly anticipated projects like the “Gossip Girl” and “Grease” reboots have uncertain release dates due to the pandemic.

You can sign up for a free seven-day trial. Some HBO Now subscribers will get a free automatic upgrade that will transform the Now app into the Max app. Those who subscribe to Now through Amazon Prime, Roku or an internet provider are exempt. Luckily, anyone can download the app for free and give it a whirl.
