Designer puts on virtual fashion show with 3D models
Hanifa is a Congolese fashion brand by designer Anifa Mvuemba and its Pink Label Congo collection made an interesting debut on Instagram.
Hanifa hosted a virtual fashion show using 3D models. The stunning video features the clothing strutting down the catwalk sans humans, although each outfit is perfectly filled out.

The clip features a flowy, red mini dress, a sleeveless, ruffled denim jumpsuit and a long, draped white maxi dress. There were also a few separates like a lengthy mermaid skirt and a mini skirt printed with a blue sky and grass.
A digital fashion show is certainly one way to get around social distancing rules. When Mvuemba heard Covid-19 was ramping up, she decided to continue designing her collection using the 3D models.
“With a digital model you’re determining the measurements and what would cause the model to look most realistic,” Mvuemba told Teen Vogue. “Without real women to draw inspiration from there could be no 3D models to emulate our beautiful skin tones, curves and walking patterns. For me the biggest challenge is making sure that the beauty we display in real life is well represented on the screen.”
The fashion show received over 213,000 views on Instagram. A few notable models chimed in to praise the showstopping pieces. Jourdan Dunn provided a few clap emojis while others offered kind words.
“Never been more proud to be a Black Woman!” model Ebonee Davis wrote.
The collection was inspired by the untapped and often overlooked beauty of the Congo.
“I want these pieces to tell a story of meaning. I want them to remind us to be intentional about what we create. Not for clout or for Instagram likes, but for the sake of meaning what we say by storytelling through our designs.” Mvuemba told Teen Vogue.
