When it comes to your skincare routine, wearing sunscreen every day is repeatedly recommended by dermatologists and professionals. Since May is Skin Cancer Awareness Month, it’s a perfect opportunity to incorporate new items into your beauty arsenal that can be beneficial to your overall health.

While most sunscreens, whether they’re chemical or mineral, can protect you from UVA and UVB rays, there is another form of light that could potentially wreak havoc on your skin in the long run: HEV light, also known as blue light. And although it can be difficult to find a blue light sunscreen that’s accessible and affordable, there is one product that checks off both boxes and is even loved by over 3,700 Sephora shoppers.

BeautyBlender’s Selfie Shield includes SPF 38 and can protect you from both electronic and environmental exposure. Meant to provide protection from UVA, UVB and HEV light, this formula blends easily and won’t leave a white or chalky cast — a feature that’s super important for many beauty enthusiasts.

So how harmful can blue light be? Well, although there is much to be discovered, there is one study that analyzed the damage that exposure can cause. In regards to the research, Miami-based dermatologist Loretta Ciraldo told Allure, “This study absolutely makes us realize that blue light produces visible skin change, including redness and pigmentation.”

For those who have a difficult time finding a sunscreen that won’t interfere with their makeup, this one could be a total game-changer. Not only is it super lightweight and non-greasy, but it can also act as a primer and has been said to give a “glowy” effect.

One five-star reviewer wrote, “Obsessed with this primer. This product gives your face that extra step that you need, especially for makeup! It makes my face so glowy, but doesn’t leave your face feeling oily at all!”

Another reviewer explained, “Love that this product protects me from the blue light of my computer! And while I would normally stay away from oil products for my oily skin, this dry oil served as a great base for the foundation.”

While many shoppers can’t help but rave about this product, it might not work for everyone, especially if you already have oily skin.

One shopper wrote, “Not one of my favorites. I have combination skin and felt this was a little too oily for me.”

Either way, if you’re looking for a product that can protect you from different types of light exposure, works well with makeup and is top-rated, this one is definitely worth considering.
