Family dyes muddy pond blue in incredible transformation video

Melody Joy is a TikTok vlogger who shares tidbits from her life. Joy’s social media bio says, “My pond gets more clout than me.” And she might be right. When she and her family dyed their pond blue, the video racked up 31.8 million views.

“So our pond has always been super brown,” Joy says in the clip. “And my dad decided to try to dye it. He bought these packets that just dissolve in the water.”

In the video, Joy’s brother and father take a bucket of the blue dye onto a small boat. They row the boat around the pond to spread the dye. At first it looks a bit like a tie-dye mix of blue and brown. But after the dye settled the next day, it’s a perfect solid blue. Now that’s one heck of a makeover.

“I’m sure it’s totally safe for fish, but like imagine their thought process as the water turned blue,” one TikTok user commented.

“It’s all fun and games until you jump in and you’re suddenly a smurf,” a user joked.

“Wow, it looks like a resort in the Caribbean,” one person said.

For those concerned about all the little fishies, pond dye is food grade so it’s safe for animal and marine life. It’s non-toxic, environmentally-friendly and can even help aquatic plants grow, like watermilfoil, naiads and pondweeds. It also actually reduces the growth of harmful algae, like filamentous, single-cell planktonic and mat-forming algae.
