Artist uses special rubber paint to create custom sneakers

Donny the Dybbuk is a mysterious Insta-famous custom sneaker designer who updates classic sneakers like Converse’s Chuck Taylors, Nike’s Air Force Ones and Adidas’ Sam Smiths with vibrant and clever designs using rubber paint.

The artist’s “Sorbet” collection features ice cream-inspired Air Force Ones. In one pair, the Nike logo is covered in dripping yellow paint so that it looks like it’s melting, while the outsole is painted in a blue drip with pink underneath.

Donny also uses sneaker soles as a mold for the peel-able, rubber paint. He coats the bottom of each shoe, then peels it away. Each peel is imprinted with the sneaker’s unique sole design.

In a separate post, he revealed that the peels were used to create a colorful tote bag design.

“Beyond words, this is so cool. I really think you should sell these!” one user said of the tote.

“I can’t believe it, this is another level,” another wrote.

“One of your most creative pieces,” one person added.

While the artist is largely anonymous, he gave some insight into his process in a video of his one-man operation. Donny’s apartment is filled with old sneakers, including a dozen or so of the freshly made “Sorbet” Air Force Ones hanging on a rack. He is also seen dipping the soles of a pair of Vans into orange paint, threading shoelaces, and packaging sneakers in the short clip.
