Garbage collector ‘spooked’ by discovery in family’s trash: ‘I don’t think he’ll ever come back’

Two garbage collectors are going viral after getting caught on the wrong end of a family’s trash-themed prank.

The stunt began when Shannah Hammons, who runs a TikTok account with her two younger brothers, hid inside a garbage bag near her family’s trash bins. She shared a clip of her encounter with the garbage men, which has since been viewed more than 3 million times.

In the video, the two trash collectors can be seen pulling up their truck to the side of the garbage cans. One worker empties the first bin into the truck, then attempts to empty the trash bag next to it —where Hammons has been hiding for an unknown amount of time.

As the garbage worker lifts the bag up, Hammons jumps out and screams. The reveal certainly seems to catch the trash collector by surprise.

The shocked man leaps up in fear before pacing away from the truck. He eventually walks several feet down the road and yells back, “I quit!”

Both garbage collectors seemed to take the prank in stride though, as they can be heard laughing with each other toward the end of the video. Still, that didn’t stop TikTok users from commenting on the one worker’s originally “spooked” reaction.

“You almost gave him a heart attack,” one user commented.

“I don’t think he’ll ever come back,” another joked.

The trash collectors may have been at the wrong end of the joke, but they ultimately got plenty of praise from commenters, who seemed to agree they’d been good sports. Hammons was also quick to add in a comment that her family plans to send the men a gift to make up for their frightening morning.

“Will it be friendly or scary?” another user asked of the make-up present.

For what it’s worth, Hammons’ stunt doesn’t seem to be the first of its kind. The TikToker gave credit to previous pranksters in her video description, writing a thanks to whoever gave them the “genius” idea.
