Struggle braids no more! Now you can finally see exactly how to rock a French plait.

Lati is a hairstylist who teaches online and in-person tutorials at Learn with Lati. She started Braids by Color to simplify plaiting techniques with wigs made of yarn — the yarn is distributed into color-coded sections to make visual learning easier.

Students can now clearly distinguish where each segment of hair is intended to go. Braiding is a process of looping and layering hair, so when it’s done in one solid color it can be hard to see exactly what’s going on.

She demonstrated how to use the wig cap in a TikTok. Chunky yellow, orange and red sections stem from the center of the wig. On the sides of her head, there are blue and purple sections — to differentiate between the orange and red in the center.

Lati places the yellow yarn over the orange, then the red over the yellow. This makes the braiding pattern easy to follow. She incorporates the pink and blue from the sides as she works her way down the three center colors. The pro is done in a pinch!

The short tutorial garnered 208,000 views on TikTok. People were generally appreciative of the free lesson.

“Thank you so much for sharing! I’ve been wanting to learn how to braid my own hair and seeing this finally gave me the push to sit down and learn,” one TikTok user said.

“I’ve always walked to know how to do this. My daughter is going to live,” another said.

“So excited!! I keep just making knots, I think your video will help me a lot. Thank you,” one person commented.
