This hyperrealistic toilet paper cake is so 2020
Danielle Flores, known as Dani Flowers on YouTube, is a baking guru and influencer. Her specialties are brightly-colored, elaborate cakes with florals and sprinkles.
However, Flores has recently taken inspiration from an unexpected household item: toilet paper. A recent TikTok of the baker cutting into a hyperrealistic toilet paper cake received 1.5 million views.
“No toilet paper shortage here,” she captioned the video.

Flores is referencing the global dearth of toilet paper sparked by the novel coronavirus pandemic. A 40 percent increase in toilet paper purchasing triggered disruption in the supply chain. The shift from commercial toilet tissue, the kind used at businesses and public places, to retail, the kind used at home, created the scarcity according to USA Today.
For weeks since the outbreak, Flores has used her Instagram account as a shrine to TP. At least four posts now feature birthday cakes decorated with a can of Lysol disinfectant spray, a bottle of Purell hand sanitizer and an essential worker wearing a mask alongside the a roll of toilet paper.

However, Flores’ cake shaped like the coveted bathroom tissue is her biggest hit yet.
“I thought that was toilet paper but it’s a trick,” one TikTok user said.
“I thought that was real,” another replied.
