A TikTok user is going viral after claiming to catch a nearby driver in a “dangerous” multi-tasking situation.
The user, Ryan Morris, shared a video of the incident on April 19. The clip, which has since been viewed more than 350,000 times, seems to show a nearby driver playing on a Nintendo Switch while stopped at an intersection.
According to the video, at least one driver decided to take their fondness of the game to a possibly illegal level. In his clip, Morris begins zooming in on the woman’s hands, showing a Nintendo Switch console propped against her wheel. Game in hand, she then takes off as the light changes.
“This is some next level…” Morris says, cutting himself off as the driver accelerates. “What? What?”
It’s unclear whether or not the woman was actually playing “Animal Crossing,” but her actions were likely illegal regardless of the game.
Texting and driving is currently illegal in 48 states, according to the Governors Highway Safety Association. In many of those states, the laws either explicitly or implicitly include video games.
Morris’ video sparked outrage among TikTok users, who shared concern over the “dangerous” and “unsafe” decision.
“No please, if you do this, DO NOT. dare I say this is probably worse than texting and driving. my anxiety is going through the roof,” one user cautioned.
“Please no one do this. Don’t risk your life or the life of others,” another person said.
“I hope she gets pulled over,” a third person added.
Others, meanwhile, pointed out that Morris was possibly filming his video while driving, which many commenters also found concerning. However, it’s difficult to confirm from the clip whether or not that’s true.
