Nike may be a classic brand sitting in millions of closets, but right now, it’s trending more than ever. With the quiet release of the new Kobe Bryant sneaker to the rise of at-home workouts becoming our new normal, searches for Nike have drastically increased.

Aside from peaking in Google Trends, Lyst recently released data that “Nike is the brand most searched globally over the last seven days…” as the global fashion search platform continues to track the current quarantine’s effects on our online fashion searches. More specifically, the Nike Classic Cortez, one of the brands most iconic silhouettes, has sparked popularity around the web.

The Classic Cortez first launched in 1972 by Nike co-founder and Olympic-class track coach Bill Bowman. It was the first running and track shoe that the brand ever created. However, over the past couple of decades, the Cortez has been redesigned many times. The outer sole was originally created from leather, but has since been reworked to decrease the weight of the shoe.

Bella Hadid’s influence has lent a modern day makeover to the shoe, as her street style has become synonymous with the Nike Cortez. The 23-year-old supermodel has been spotted wearing the sneakers so many times that Nike tapped her as the face of the shoe’s 45th anniversary in 2017. “What’s so dope about these shoes is that they’re so versatile. You can style them with a T-shirt and Levi’s and you look like you’re fresh out of the ‘90s; I wore them with a beautiful little white silk dress; and of course, it completes a cool workout outfit. They elevate everything, it’s such an iconic shoe,” Hadid explained to Refinery 29.

The Nike Cortez almost always costs $70, unless they’re part of a novelty collaboration. From women’s to men’s and kid's, we scoured the internet to find the best-selling sneaker on sale as markdowns continue to flood the internet. Check out the classic kicks below!
