BarkBox, a subscription-based service delivering a “monthly surprise of dog toys, treats, and goodies,” is currently offering some free limited-edition … um, “spring”-themed dog toys for its current and new customers.
However, the toys are causing quite a stir on social media, with many people pointing out they clearly weren’t just made green “because [of] spring,” as a tongue-in-cheek Facebook post by the brand claims.
The covert 4/20 promotion, which is very in line with BarkBox’s past playful (and sometimes mildly naughty) designs, features weed-themed chew toys, including the “spinach burrito” (a plush joint) and the “watering can toy” (a chewable bong.)

Naturally, Facebook users and spinach-lovers alike are having a field day with the designs.
“This made me purchase a subscription, as a ‘spinach’ and dog connoisseur,” one woman joked.
“My dad might not be excited but I am!” said another.
“How do I get in line to run this social media?” wrote a third. “I have an MBA and love spinach.”
BarkBox later took to its blog to acknowledge the user feedback and provide an important warning to all pet owners.
“BARK definitely enjoys pushing beyond the limits of what most people see as ‘normal’ for dog toys, especially when we can help include dogs in relevant ~human~ experiences in a fun, safe way,” the company wrote. “That means please do not give your dog any THC-containing substances, it’s the opposite of fun and safe, thank you.”
