These Native American girls did the “Don’t Rush” challenge, and it’s epic

You may have seen the “Don’t Rush” challenge circulating around on social media at some point. According to Teen Vogue, Toluwalase Asolo, a 20-year-old student at the University of Hull in England, started the challenge by tweeting a clip set to the song “Don’t Rush” by British rap duo Young T and Bugsey.

In the footage, Asolo holds a makeup brush to the camera. When she pulls it away, she’s glammed up. She then “tosses” the makeup brush to a friend, who catches it and undergoes a similar transformation. The brush is “tossed” to other women, who continue the trend.

The original video received 2 million views and has since spread across social media platforms like wildfire.

Recently, a group of Native American girls did their own version in powwow regalia. Montana resident Shayz Primeaux shared a video of her niece Jayda and her cousins doing the challenge set to a song by Blackstone with the Bearhead sisters. The clip has gone on to receive 2.5 million views on Facebook.

In Jayda’s version, she and her cousins transform from their lounge clothes to their colorfully embellished regalia, which often indicate tribal affiliation and ancestry.

“My niece Jayda seen her auntie Tanisha do a video like this and wanted to do one as well … we asked her cousins if they wanted to help her make one and they all agreed … Thanks to her cousins for being a part of this,” Primeaux wrote in the video’s caption.

According to the Nanticoke Indian Tribe, a powwow is “a cultural event that features group singing and dancing by men, women and children. Through these gatherings, cultural traditions are passed from generation to generation.”
