We totally get it: life is hard in quarantine. You can’t out hang with friends, you can’t have date night out, and you certainly can’t go to your hair salon. And for those who rely on that monthly appointment to get their roots touched up, your friends may be in for a surprise when you meet again.

But quarantine or not, one doesn’t always have access to a hair dresser or hair dye. (Budget or distance may prove to be two hurdles.) However, that doesn’t mean your roots are entirely hopeless. Whether you’re due for a root touch-up or you just want to hide some gray hair, you can handle the matter yourself at home AND for an affordable price.

While it can’t substitute the hands of a professional hair stylist, the L’Oreal Paris Magic Root Cover Up might be the thing to cover your roots until your next salon visit. In fact, that’s one thing that the product boasts about.

According to the product description, this Magic Root Cover Up is a temporary hair color spray that can conceal gray roots. It’s quick to dry and claims to work on any hair texture — including synthetic hair. (So, wig and extension lovers, this is also okay for you to use too.)

Moreover, one application is supposed to last you until your next shampoo.

It’s available in eight shades, which can be used on “black hair, brown hair, blonde hair and even red hair,” as explained in the product description. To use it, you just spray six inches from your hair, comb and let dry for one minute.

For those of you stuck in between visits to the hair dresser, this has become a treasured find for some buyers.

“This product is great for in between color appointments. It helps keep your color looking great and your roots consistent with the rest of your hair. You just need to have your style set before you spray it because it has somewhat of a hairspray effect.”

Although the spray did receive many high marks, some complaints were that it doesn't last super long and that it can leave behind a mess.

"It works fine in a pinch but it is super messy -- I woke up to hair color on my pillowcases. It also winds up on your hands if you touch your hair or scalp," one buyer wrote. "Bottom line, it's okay for an occasional touch-up or to fill in while waiting for your regular stylist appointment. Just don't wear any light colors."

While other touch up sprays like R+Co Bright Shadows may offer additional hair benefits, the L’Oreal Paris Magic Root Cover Up is less expensive and comes in a shade more.
