Brother takes sister to father-daughter dance after dad fails to show up: 'I literally cried'

When Skylar Hamerter’s father failed to show up to take her to her daddy-daughter dance, her brother Christian quickly came to her rescue.

In a viral Facebook post of the moment posted on Feb. 29, the duo’s mother Trelysia expressed pride and gratitude for her selfless son.

“This is the [second] year that my daughter’s father stood her up for the daddy/daughter dance. She cried because she had her heart set on going. I felt so bad because there was nothing I could do because I’m not a male (obviously),” she wrote.

She continued: “Then her big brother stepped in and said he’d take her because he wanted his sister to know that she deserves a man keeping his word and making her feel special.”

In an interview with Today, Trelysia explained that 7-year-old Skylar really wanted to show her dad off to everyone at the dance.

“This year she comes to me ahead of time and says, ‘Mommy, I want my dad to come with me to the dance. I don’t want grandpa. I want my dad, I want everyone to know I have a dad,’” she said.

Though Trelysia couldn’t get Skylar’s dad to accompany her to the dance, she is beyond grateful for her 11-year-old son for stepping up to the plate.

“Y’all I literally cried,” Trelysia wrote in the Facebook post about the touching moment between her kids. “Just know that I’m raising someone a GREAT HUSBAND one day.”
