One of my pet peeves in life is when someone shows up to a party celebrating a new apartment or home without a little something special. OK, so it might be my southern roots and love of old-fashioned etiquette rules that makes me so adamant about guests always bringing along a housewarming gift, but it’s also a nice gesture to show friends or family that you’re thinking of them.

Housewarming gifts come in handy for your friends or family because it’s probably something they have on their shopping wish list, but actually don’t want to buy for themselves. Don’t be that person who shows up empty-handed!

While I’ll accept a good bottle of wine any time you come over to my apartment, whether I just moved in or not, there are some pretty cool gift ideas for a housewarming party. Even when you’re in a pinch, you can still shop personalized gifts on a budget. Of course, Amazon Prime’s two-day shipping is clutch when you’ve run out of time before seeing your friend’s new place, but if you have some time to shop, there are other sites that offer customizable gifts and things you wouldn’t think of — we’re looking at you Mark & Graham and UncommonGoods.

You probably don’t want to spend too much, so when you start shopping, first think about your budget, but also think about the person you’re shopping for. Choosing a gift that will actually mean something to them is all the more special than something super expensive. Or, if you just moved into a new home yourself, all the more the reason to treat yourself to that cute candle or throw pillow you’ve been wanting!

Below, we’ve rounded up some of the most unique (and thoughtful!) gift ideas that are all under $50.

Shop: Homesick New Home Candle, $29.95

Credit: Amazon

One of my favorite things to gift someone any time of year is a Homesick Candle. While the brand first launched state candles, the collection now includes candles for some of life’s most-cherished memories, like moving into a new home or even the scent of grandma’s kitchen. This personal touch takes gifting a candle to someone to a new level.

Shop: The Sill Marble Queen Pothos, $56

Credit: The Sill

Adding greenery to any space immediately elevates the vibe of any room, but it also brings a touch of the outdoors in, which is ideal when living in a smaller space. And let’s be honest, plants are basically the new pets for millennials, but without all the work to take care of them. If your friend doesn’t have the greenest of thumbs, it’s OK because this pothos from The Sill thrives in indirect light and requires low maintenance — it only has to be watered every one to two weeks. And you can go a step further by selecting their favorite pot color from six different options.

Shop: Catstudio State Kitchen Towel, from $20

Credit: Amazon

Another one of my favorite housewarming gifts is anything by Catstudio. The home goods brand offers pillows, dish towels, drinking glasses, and more that feature a collage-style design that represents different states and places. If your friend or family member just moved across the country, a handy dish towel of the state where they are from will be a sweet reminder of home.

Shop: UncommonGoods Compact Swivel Cheese Board with Knives, $42

Credit: UncommonGoods

For a smaller apartment or home, this cheese board is an entertaining must-have since it folds up into a compact size. Using this cheese board will also immediately elevate any party since it looks so high-end, yet it’s super affordable starting at $42 for the 13-inch option. Plus, a hidden compartment holds three knives for easy access when you’re serving cheese and more.

Shop: Mark & Graham Monogrammed Turkish Hydro Cotton Bath Towel, $39

Credit: Mark & Graham

Mark & Graham offers free monogramming on almost all of its products, and these towels are no exception. Adding a monogram to these towels immediately makes this housewarming gift more personal, and they’ll instantly add a touch of luxe to any bathroom. Towels are one of those things people tend to forget to upgrade, so bringing a plush new set will be greatly appreciated.

Shop: Pristine Bamboo Bathtub Tray, $44.70 (Orig. $89.99)

Credit: Amazon

Moving can be a stressful process, but this handy, expandable bamboo bathroom tray can help inspire a night of self care (it expands from 29.5 to 43 inches). With the included adjustable and water-resistant stand, you can rest a phone, tablet, or book without having to worry about anything getting wet. And don’t forget about your glass of wine! There’s a compartment for wine glasses, soap, and a tray for other bath essentials.

Shop: My Sofa Arm Sofa Arm Clip Table, $17.99

Credit: Amazon

In an apartment or home that’s tight on space, this clip-on table is a game changer. It easily rests on the arm of your sofa for drinks, remotes, books, and more. Instead of buying a side table, this small table can still keep your items tidy and organized.
