From dominating television and movie scenes to championing mental health awareness through her foundation, Taraji P. Henson has always maintained that self-care is a key fixture in her life. Continuing to expand on that philosophy, the Oscar-nominated actress has officially launched her own affordable haircare brand titled TPH by Taraji, sold exclusively at Target.
The "Empire" frontwoman took to Instagram on Jan. 29 to officially announce that the line is now available for purchase, with the products ranging from $9.99 to $14.99.
While opening up about the new venture in an interview with In Style, Henson shared that the haircare line was born from her need to nurse her scalp back to health following constant irritation that came with using weaves and wigs on-set and during press days.
The actress explained that the line's key product, the Master Cleanse scalp wash, was formulated as a result and, soon after, during a trip to Mexico with her friends — who each wore weaves — she realized that she should develop a collection focused on caring for the roots.
"At the time, I had to assemble [the cleanser] everywhere I went because nothing was out there that was conducive to this," she said. "So I put it all together and they went to the bathroom and used it and loved it. That's when I was like, 'I think I'm onto something.'"
The formulations later expanded into an 18-product line that Henson claims is suitable for all hair types.
"It's for everybody because I've worn every kind of hair," she explained. "I wanted it to be all-inclusive, that's my fan-base. And it's not only Black women who are wearing installs, everybody wears installs."
While touching on her conscious effort to have each product crafted with salon-quality ingredients while being reasonably priced, she added, "I'm that type of girl... It ain't no fun unless the homies finna have some."
Just another reason to love her!
