As major designers continue to tap well known figures for money-making capsule collections, the power of celebrity fashion collaborations is not going anywhere in the new year.
During the last week of 2019, Gucci's creative director Alessandro Michele teamed up with Harry Styles to release a limited-edition t-shirt, which no surprise, sold out instantly. So who is the Italian fashion house's latest celebrity collab? Think: The world's most famous mouse -- in honor of the 2020 Lunar New Year, which is the official Year Of The Rat.
Thanks to Gucci, Mickey Mouse just got a whole lot chicer. While his red high-rise shorts and white gloves are certainly iconic, the Walt Disney mascot is dipping his large yellow shoes into silk bombers, sartorial sweatshirts and the brand's signature horsebit loafers.
The Disney x Gucci limited-edition collection includes over 70 styles of ready-to-wear items, which is part of the label's Cruise 2020 lineup. Michele revamped his gender-bending designs to infuse Mickey Mouse's character with Gucci's classic motifs like the GG Marmont, silk floral and its best-selling Ace trainers.
The 48-year-old Italian designer also introduced a brand new material for the collection: Mini GG Supreme canvas which is was inspired by '80s fabrication the fashion house used to experiment with.
This isn't the first time Gucci has channeled Mickey for a collaboration. In honor of Mickey Mouse's 90th birthday in 2018, Alessandro Michele revealed a 3D printed Mickey Mouse Top Handle bag that debuted on the SS'19 runway, retailing for $4,500.
