Celebrity makeup artist Jasen Kaplan reveals his 5 favorite products of all time

Some people may be committed to their long-loved beauty products and rarely stray from their go-tos. Others can spend hours roaming the aisles of Sephora and Ulta on the hunt for nothing in particular at all. But no matter your commitment to makeup, there's one thing most can agree on: Finding new products is a tricky time.

With so many new celebrity collaborations and indie brands on the market, how do we know which products we can trust? Which live up the hype and which are worth the splurge? We chatted with celebrated makeup artist Jasen Kaplan, who has worked with Cyndi Lauper and Eva Longoria amongst other A-listers, to break down his top five favorite beauty products and his favorite ways to use them.

"First off, it is my belief that without being kind to your skin and creating a healthy glowing hydrated palette, you can NOT have beautiful makeup. I always prep the skin, making it clean and soft to ensure concealer goes on well and lasts all day. I LOVE the Endure Under Eye Gel Therapy Pads! After prepping the clean skin, I apply the Under Eye Gel Therapy Pads. I leave them on during my shadow and lash application to catch any fallout that may happen from eyeshadows. Once eyes are done, I remove patches and I begin with applying the foundation."

"To achieve a glowing, radiant even complexion without a heavy, caked up look, I use the Beauty Blender Bounce Foundation with a damp Beauty Blender Sponge. I love this foundation because of its light to medium/full coverage and it is also completely buildable. It leaves the skin looking soft, even, fresh and immaculate! The Beauty Blender sponge itself is an obvious must-have because it is the only way to get an airbrushed finish without an airbrush. Remember always bounce the blender and don’t drag it over your skin! Also, use it damp, not dry!"

"I am a huge fan of multi-use products! So, I love to use the Jouer Cosmetics Sunswept Bronzer Palette. I use them to bronze the face, but I also give definition to the eye as a shadow on the lid or in the crease. My go-to look is a little foundation, bronzer on the eye and face, blush, mascara and a gloss."

"This leads me to my next favorite go-to makeup must-have...The NARS Multiple Stick. My favorite color is Portofino! You can use it on the cheek as blush then swipe some on your eyelid for a pop of color. Next, I mix with clear gloss for the lip and you’re done for the day!"

"Last, but certainly not least, is the setting powder that protects your skin from the sun! Peter Thomas Roth Instant Mineral SPF 45 is the best way to set your makeup and dust it on over your makeup to not only lock in your foundation, but protect your skin from the harsh, aging rays from the sun. I don’t leave home without it! The component is genius. It’s a brush that you click to release the powder so there is no mess!"
