Exciting news for the Middleton family!

James Middleton, the younger brother of Pippa Matthews and the Duchess of Cambridge, has announced his engagement to French financial analyst Alizee Thevenet after meeting last year in London.

"She said OUI ❤️," the 32-year-old Middleton wrote on Instagram. "Our secret is out but we couldn’t be happier to share the news 🥂🍾."

Congratulations flooded Middleton's post from famous friends such as Holly Branson, Ben Fogle and Cressida Bonas (Prince Harry's ex-girlfriend), but royal fans were quick to notice that Thevenet's engagement ring, estimated to be between 5 to 7 carats, looks very familiar: the blue sapphire ring looks just like Kate's!

Although the royal's engagement ring, which was inherited by Prince William after Princess Diana passed away, is oval, both feature a white gold band encrusted with smaller stones. It's a timeless trend that experts at Brilliant Earth have found to be growing in popularity.

"Dazzling color and lustrous beauty make sapphires a gorgeous choice for an engagement ring," explained Kathryn Money, VP of Strategy & Merchandising for Brilliant Earth. "In fact, a recent Brilliant Earth survey found that 1 in 5 adults (20%) would prefer an engagement ring featuring a sapphire or other colored gemstone. Fancy shaped (non-round) gemstones and three-stone setting styles, particularly those featuring delicate silhouettes and fancy shaped accent diamonds, are also continuing to rise in popularity."

According to reports, the couple met in July 2018 after Thevenet stopped Middleton to say hello to one of his dogs. Thevenet, who grew up in Chile, Indonesia and Belgium and speaks four languages, moved in with Middleton last month.
