Scent has the power to evoke an array of emotions and memories, and with that, set the mood for a spooky Halloween. The smell of crisp fall leaves, crackling bonfires, chocolate candy and fresh pumpkin desserts are often associated with the October holiday. So, get in the festive spirit by burning one or more of these Halloween candles.
One of the spookiest candles we've come across is a Michael Bleeding Candle, inspired by famous slasher, Michael Myers. The candle appears white, but the longer you burn it, the more it bleeds red. It's truly the most horrifying of the bunch.
Michael Bleeding Candle, $6.40 (originally $8)
Then again, you might remember the infamous Black Flame Candle from "Hocus Pocus" that when lit by a virgin on Halloween during a full moon, could bring back the spirits of the dead. In the 1993 movie, the lighting of the candle, of course, brought back a coven of evil witches known as the Sanderson Sisters. While a version of the Black Flame Candle found on Etsy doesn't promise any magical powers, it does provide the scents of patchouli, amber, cinnamon and a hint of burning wood.
The Black Flame Candle, $18 (originally $20)
If you prefer your candles to simply smell nice and set a calming mood, this Dead of Night candle contains the scents of wild orchid, patchouli, sweet cream and blackberries and is made with a wooden wick that has a satisfying crackle. And, in our pumpkin spice candle sniff test, Anthropologie's Capri Blue Pumpkin Clove Candle Tin came out on top for its hints of vanilla mixed with buttery pumpkin and orange zest.
