This sweet potato shepherd's pie is the ultimate comfort food

Feast your eyes on a traditional shepherd's pie, but with a twist. The sweet potato mash is a delicious alternative to the traditional topping.

Ingredients

  • 5 cups sweet potatoes, cubed and cooked

  • 4 tablespoons butter

  • salt and pepper to taste

  • 2 pounds ground beef

  • 1 cup yellow onion, diced

  • 1 tablespoon chopped garlic

  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste

  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

  • salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven broiler to 425° F.

  2. Combine cooked and cubed sweet potatoes with butter, salt and pepper and mash. Mix until smooth and creamy.

  3. Heat a pan over medium-high heat and brown ground beef. Season beef with salt and pepper. Add onions, garlic, tomato paste and Worcestershire sauce.

  4. Once beef is done cooking, spread it out evenly into an 8-inch casserole dish.

  5. Spread mashed sweet potatoes on top of beef evenly and make a pattern using a fork if desired.

  6. Broil on the middle rack in the oven for 10-15 minutes.

  7. Once done, let sit for 5 minutes until completely set and slightly cooled. Serve and enjoy!
