NYFW: Negin Mirsalehi drops first-ever capsule collection with Express

As New York Fashion Week Spring 2020 comes to a close, collections and pieces that were debuted during the action-packed week are just kicking off.

For seasoned designers and brands, churning out new collections every season becomes routine.

But for international influencer and style icon Negin Mirsalehi, this season marks the launch of her first-ever capsule collection with Express.

“It was really important to find the right moment and the right partner to do this with. I’ve been blogging and [have been] a social influencer for six or seven years so I really needed the time to figure out what I wanted to do exactly and this is the perfect moment, the perfect partner — it all came together," Mirsalehi explained on the evolution of the collection.

Inspired by an on-the-go, travel-focused lifestyle, Mirsalehi's capsule collection is distinguished by loudly printed separates, boyfriend-fitted blazers and neutral-colored basics like sweaters and bodysuits.

“We love the real classic pieces that you can mix and match, you can wear different sizes — oversized or fitted ... you’re still yourself, but you look at yourself through a global lens. You can see yourself in Paris or in New York or in LA or in Milan or in other cities," Mirsalehi said about her imagined consumer.

Standout pieces from the collection include a snakeskin-printed vegan leather skirt, a fitted tiger-print sweater dress and a cozy zip-up sherpa jacket -- think of it as your basics upgraded with the versatility to wear each piece over and over and wear it differently every time.

Mirsalehi's active involvement in the process of creation is perhaps why the final product is such a seamlessly natural embodiment of her own sense of style:

“I was super hands-on and that’s really the freedom that I wanted and [Express] was able to give me that. We met with each other every month, we talked with each other every week so it was a beautiful process of constant communication.

[My style is] feminine-chic, either vintage or not vintage but also with a cool twist. I like beautiful dresses or classic leather pants but then I like to play around with something like very manly boots or a boyfriend-fitted white T-shirt.”
