Alice + Olivia builds colorful bohemian dreamland for NYFW

Updated

More and more designers are using New York Fashion Week to diversify their platforms by straying from the traditional runway shows -- Tommy Hilfiger threw a block party for his new collaboration with Zendaya, while Tom Ford took over a subway station to debut his NYFW collection -- but this isn't unusual for Alice + Olivia's Stacey Bendet, who regularly produces jaw-dropping, brightly-colored sets to accompany her fashion week designs.

"Presentations are more creative!" the designer told AOL Lifestyle. "They allow for storytelling. Runways feel like the past to me, I want my customer to be able to feel like they have been transported into a fantasy at our shows."

Bendet did what she does best to showcase her Spring/Summer 2020 collection, which features the creative's fresh spin on colors and tailoring in what the brand deems a "modern bohemian field of dreams."

She explained, "This collection is much more about tailoring and color-blocked solids versus past collections which were greatly based on prints! We worked on dramatic fresh separate shapes and a beautiful unique color palette."

But it wasn't just her the whimsical ruffles and color-blocked gowns (Bendet's favorite of the season!) that left the crowds talking. Instead, it was the set that helped bring these designs to life: Models swinging from hot pink clouds, sitting on thrones made out of orange stuffed animals and giant tulips that stood taller than the models themselves. Guests could also take photos in an old VW Beetle wrapped in the brand's hero print.

"When the colors are right in a space you exhale and tune into your own interior,” Bendet said. “I dream in color and these rooms are fashion dreams come to life.”

It was Stacey's world, and we were just living in it.
