Costco is selling a 72-pound wheel of cheese and you won't believe how much it costs

Costco is made for shoppers who enjoy or need to buy in bulk, but one of their biggest pieces of inventory is turning heads. The wholesale store is selling a 72-pound wheel of cheese.

The cheese wheel is of the Parmigiano Reggiano variety, which according to Costco's website, is made from "the freshest milk from the famous Parma and Reggio Emilio provinces in Italy." It's aged for two years and regularly inspected to make sure it meets the strict standards of the Consortium Parmigiano Reggiano. In short, this is really good cheese, and it doesn't come at a small price.

Kirkland Signature Whole Wheel Parmigiano Reggiano currently retails for $899.99 and and is imported straight from Italy. It takes only two to three days to ship, however, it can only be ordered Monday-Wednesday for a Wednesday-Friday delivery to avoid potentially spoiling over the weekend.

Keep in mind, a wheel of cheese like this, when uncut, should last you a while. Once you dig in, it will only last about 3 to 4 weeks stored in the refrigerator and about 6 months in the freezer. But, think of all thee things you could do with this cheese!

"In addition to being eaten alone, shredded or grated Parmigiano Reggiano transforms any pasta, soup or salad into an exquisite gourmet experience," Costco's website reads.

You could even make your own authentic Roman cacio e pepe pasta, which is rolled in a wheel of Parmesan and sprinkled with pepper.

Consider this cheese wheel an amazing deal! Priced out, it's about $12.50 per pound of cheese and comparatively, other cheese wheels on Amazon and at Williams-Sonoma will run you a couple hundred dollars more. Although, if you still aren't convinced you need a whopping 72 pounds of cheese, you can also opt for this 3-pound slice of a wheel found on Amazon.
