Starbucks is releasing a new Pumpkin Cream Cold Brew drink — here's what it tastes like

Updated

It's official! Starbucks is bringing back its iconic Pumpkin Spice Latte on Tuesday, Aug. 27. However, they're also giving fans a little extra something to be excited about, and that's a new Pumpkin Cream Cold Brew drink.

The new drink recreates the flavor of a PSL in the form of cold brew mixed with a hint of vanilla flavoring, topped with pumpkin cream cold foam and a dusting of pumpkin spice topping.

What the Pumpkin Cream Cold Brew tastes like

Based on a taste test, we can confirm that the creaminess of the cold foam really complements the vanilla-flavored cold brew, and that it's slightly less sweet than a PSL. It's a great alternative for hot end-of-summer days when drinking a Pumpkin Spice Latte feels premature, yet you can't suppress your craving for the fall-favorite flavor.

It's the first new pumpkin-flavored drink since 2003

The Pumpkin Cream Cold Brew drink marks the chain's first new pumpkin coffee beverage since the Pumpkin Spice Latte's original launch in 2003. While you can already order the original PSL iced, the marriage of the flavor with cold brew seems like an obvious next step, considering the fact that cold or iced drinks make up 50 percent of Starbucks' sales and that the Pumpkin Spice Latte is Starbucks' top-selling seasonal beverage (they've sold 424 million PSL drinks in the U.S. since 2003).

Starbucks' fall menu is all about pumpkin

In addition to the return of the Pumpkin Spice Latte and the launch of the Pumpkin Cream Cold Foam on Tuesday, Starbucks is also bringing back the Salted Caramel Mocha beverage, as well as several other pumpkin-flavored bakery items.
