Meghan Markle is reportedly writing her first children's book

Meghan Markle loves to read and write and is reportedly ready to share that passion by publishing her first children's book.

Fans of the royal shouldn't expect a tell-all or a deeper look into life at Frogmore Cottage, however. According to The Sun, the Duchess of Sussex is weighing a few ideas in regards to the topic, but is leaning towards writing a fictional book that incorporates her love of animals. Proceeds would presumably go to charity.

“Meghan is going to become a published author and is very excited about it," a source revealed. "The plans are in the very early stages and won’t be formally announced for some time."

"She loves animals and her rescue dogs so it’s very likely they will be incorporated into the story," they continued.

This would be officially Meghan's first book, although the duchess has shared several pieces of writing in the past. Most recently, she guest edited British Vogue and in 2018, she sponsored and wrote a foreword for the cookbook, “Together: Our Community Cookbook." And we can't forget, in her pre-royal days, Meghan had her own lifestyle blog called The Tig.

Meghan isn't the only royal to hold the title of author, however. Her father-in-law, Prince Charles, wrote a children's book in 1980 called "The Old Man of Lochnagar." Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York, also published "Budgie The Little Helicopter" in 1989, the first of a series of children's books that eventually inspired a television show that aired in the early 1990s.

Some royal fans may remember that last November, Simon and Schuster published "His Royal Dogness, Guy the Beagle: The Rebarkable True Story of Meghan Markle's Rescue Dog," which is a children's book from the point-of-view of Meghan's beloved beagle, Guy. The publisher tapped authors Camille March and Michael Brumm (a writer from "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert") to tell the hilarious story of Guy's life, moving from the US to the UK, settling in at the palace and learning to go to the bathroom on the other side of the fire hydrant.

Should Meghan expand on Guy's life in her own words or lean more into the fictional category, it wouldn't be the first time she's written about her pup. Earlier this year the duchess penned an essay on the joy of adopting her dogs.
