Lucy Hale shares the one thing that will motivate her to get to the gym

Lucy Hale, best known for her role as Aria on Freeform's "Pretty Little Liars," is on to the next sure-to-be hit "Katy Keene." But before this "Riverdale" spin-off blows up, she's spending a few of her summer days teaming up with Propel for the brand’s annual Co:Labs Fitness Festival. AOL's Julia Webb caught up with her a few days before the mid-July event to talk everything fitness. Read their full conversation below.

AOL: So tell me a little bit about the event that you'll be at participating in with Propel.

Lucy Hale: It’s called the Propel Co:Lab Fitness Festival and they’ve been doing it for a couple years now. It's a bunch of exercise classes and fitness lovers and fitness teachers and all these lovers of wellness that are going to be out there. I’m excited to discover new things and new classes, and I'll be co-teaching a class with Luke Milton from Training Mate, which is a high intensity circuit class based out of LA. It's a class that I take with my friends all the time, so it’ll be fun to reverse the roles a little bit and get to co-teach because usually I'm just a student, so it should fun and exciting.

Besides taking circuit classes, what else is a part of your fitness routine?

I typically try to do something every single day, whether it be working out with my trainer or Training Mate or Soulcycle or hiking outside, yoga -- I’m constantly trying to switch it up. Anywhere from 45 minutes to an hour and a half everyday I try to do something, and obviously that’s not always possible with travel and working, but it's my form of self-care and I really try to make it a priority to get something done every single day.

When you're just really not in the mood to workout, how do you motivate yourself to get to the gym?

Honestly, coffee keeps me going and excited. So if I can be like “okay, we can go and stop to get a coffee before,” usually having a coffee will give me enough motivation to go workout.

The hardest part is getting out of bed sometimes, but if you put on the clothes, you feel a little bit better, you get your coffee, you feel a lot better, and usually by the time I get to the gym, I'm like totally motivated. But sometimes it's hard and you just need to sleep in. Sometimes I'm like, "you know what, today I'm not going to. I'm not going to workout today." And that’s fine too, you have to listen to your body.

That's a great attitude -- it's all about finding a balance. What do you always have ready to go in your gym bag?

Definitely makeup wipes. I always have to keep my skin clean before and after and during a workout. I always bring a change of clothes and I have miniatures of my face wash and hair products in my gym bag that I keep in my car so I'm always totally stocked. I'm big on snacks -- I always have to snack after a workout, whether it be like a bar or a banana or something. It's mainly just keeping my skin clean because obviously if I have time to shower I will, but you don’t always have time to shower, so it's just bringing those things with you that you’ll need to freshen up.

What can you tell us about your upcoming show "Katy Keene?"

There are some big shoes, but I'm excited! So it's from the creators of "Riverdale" and they’ve taken this character Katy Keene from the comics and they’ve created this world in New York City based around her. It's about her and her friends, including Josie from "Riverdale," and it's just all within New York City. And [the characters are] all trying to make their different goals and dreams happen. It's about falling down and leaning on your friends during all these hard times, but it's just sort of about growing up in New York City for a 20-something year old.

But it's a great cast, it's really fun! There will be musical numbers, and it's a lot different than "Riverdale," but still the same really strong, big characters, so I'm excited for everyone to see it. We start in September, we'll actually be filming in New York, which is great because that doesn’t always happen, but it’ll be a fun new chapter!
