Prince George & Princess Charlotte are following in Kate Middleton’s footsteps and picking up this hobby

Prince George and Princess Charlotte already do balletride horses and ski. Now, according to their mom, Kate Middleton, they’ve picked up another extracurricular and it’s rather creative. Just like their mother, the 5-year-old prince and 4-year-old princess have taken up photography.

The Duchess of Cambridge revealed the news during a photography workshop she attended earlier this week in partnership with two of her patronages, the Royal Photographic Society and Action for Children. While sharing her experience with the young people from Action for Children, a foundation that supports disadvantaged children by providing them with tools to become their best selves, Middleton explained how George and Charlotte find inspiration.

“Just look at everything around you,” she encouraged the children, according to People. “Maybe it’s in front of you, or far away, but choose your subject and focus in on it.”

She went on to suggest, “Get outside with your camera as well. George and Charlotte love it when we do that.”

The Cambridge family have plenty of space to “get outside” at their Kensington Palace home, as well as their Anmer Hall summer home in Norfolk, England. The entire royal family will also make their annual sojourn to Queen Elizabeth’s summer castle, Balmoral, in Aberdeenshire, Scotland in August. The queen’s estate appears to be the perfect opportunity to immerse themselves in nature and snap pictures along the way.

The news of George and Char’s new hobby comes just after Queen Elizabeth bestowed the Duchess of Cambridge with the Royal Photographic Society patronage. Prior to K-Middy’s induction as patron, the queen held the position from 1952 on.

Between Middleton’s new patronage, natural talent for photography and formal schooling (she studied art history in college and her thesis was on photography), it seems she’s the prime choice to nurture the creativity of the mini royals.

Who knows? George and Char could become the next Annie Leibovitz and Irving Penn. We wouldn’t put it past them.
