Kate Middleton is all smiles while attending photography workshop

Updated

The Duchess of Cambridge celebrated her new patronage on Tuesday afternoon by paying a visit to a photography workshop held by The Royal Photographic Society. It was announced this morning that Queen Elizabeth had passed on the patronage to her granddaughter-in-law after holding the position for almost 70 years.

Held in conjunction with another one of Kate's patronages, Action for Children, the royal joined children for several classes on the elements of photography in Kingston, England.

The duchess opted for a paisley printed sundress, her Castañer wedges and her gold Catherine Zoraida Fern Hoop earrings, which are still available for purchase.

The organization is one of the world's oldest photographic societies and received its original royal patronage from Queen Victoria and Queen Albert in 1853. It's a fitting opportunity for Kate, who has had a longstanding interest in the art, has been featured in a few galleries and is even behind many public photo releases of her children. The 37-year-old royal is also a patron for London's celebrated National Portrait Gallery.

The Duchess of Cambridge's appointment "will further highlight the beneficial impact that art and creativity can have on emotional wellbeing, particularly for children and young people."
