Meghan Markle releases sweet essay celebrating her love of dogs

Another day, another reason to adore Meghan Markle.

The Duchess of Sussex recently shared her love of animals as a "proud rescue dog owner" in a sweet essay for one of her four patronages, Mayhew.

In a foreword for the animal welfare charity's annual review, the duchess wrote about the important role that Mayhew has in rehoming and rescuing animals, as well as their "community based approach" to educate people and take preventative measures to keep animals from ending up in shelters in the first place.

She stressed the responsibility and great reward that comes from pet adoption, something she is very familiar with. In her pre-royal days, Meghan had two rescue pups named Guy and Bogart. While Bogart stayed behind to live with a friend in Toronto, Guy continues to live with her and Prince Harry. And according to Vanity Fair, in London, the duke and duchess adopted a second dog (although the name has yet to be revealed).

"The choice to adopt a pet is a big decision that comes with much responsibility but infinite return on the investment. It will undoubtedly change your life," she wrote.

Meghan further encouraged others to adopt or find other ways to get involved through "volunteering, donation or spreading the word. We are all interconnected and through these animals we find an even greater link to community and the part we can play."

The Duchess of Sussex is currently on maternity leave after giving birth to Archie Harrison on May 6, but it seems she's still finding ways to stay connected to her work without making any physical appearances. Of course, Meghan did break her leave briefly on June 8 for Trooping the Colour to celebrate the queen's 93rd birthday, but it's been rumored that she'll return to work full-time after the summer.

In the meantime, a source told Us Weekly she's been enjoying motherhood and that "we all expected her to be thinking about work, but her life revolves around Archie at the moment.”
