Planet Fitness invites teens to workout for free in summer 2019

Updated

Summer vacation is nearly here and teens don't want to spend it lounging on the couch watching Netflix. According to new research conducted by Planet Fitness, 91 percent of teens surveyed said they wanted stay active and healthy over the summer. That's why the fitness center is inviting them to come workout for free as part of the Planet Fitness Teen Summer Challenge.

"We want to give teens across the United States the chance to stay active when school is out – a time when they may not otherwise have access to organized fitness or athletic programs, which is why we’re offering a safe space to exercise for free and spend time with their friends all summer long," Chris Rondeau, Chief Executive Officer at Planet Fitness said in a press release.

Teens ages 15 to 18 years old can hit the gym and take teen-specific workout classes at more than 1,700 Planet Fitness locations across the US starting May 15th through September 1st.

To sign up, they'll need to head to their nearest participating Planet Fitness location (with a parent or guardian if they're under 18). Those who sign up will be entered into the Planet Fitness' Scholarship Sweepstakes and by the end of the summer, 51 lucky winners will be randomly selected to win a $500 scholarship and one teen will receive the grand prize of $5,000.

The U.S. Department of Health & Human Services recommends kids ages 6 to 17 to strive to get a minimum of 60 minutes of moderate-to-vigorous physical activity each day, whether that's strength training, playing a game of basketball, running on a treadmill or taking a dance class. And with the Planet Fitness Teen Summer Challenge, they can do it all with friends for free.
