Royal baby: Meghan Markle has gone into labor

Baby Sussex is nearly here!

Buckingham Palace announced this morning that the Duchess of Sussex has gone into labor, multiple outlets report, and that her husband, Prince Harry, is by her side.

"The Duchess went into labour in the early hours of this morning. The Duke of Sussex was by Her Royal Highnesses’ side," the statement said. "An announcement will be made soon."

The palace did not reveal where Meghan Markle is in labor, though several reports claimed that she had been planning on a home birth at Windsor Castle. The Daily Mail notes that the baby's imminent arrival is coming nearly a week after its original due date.

After months of speculation, Meghan and Harry finally revealed they were expecting their first child back in October 2018, as the two kicked off their tour of the Pacific.

"Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are very pleased to announce that The Duchess of Sussex is expecting a baby in the Spring of 2019," the palace tweeted on October 15th. While the couple never publicly announced the gender or the baby's due date, the two gave multiple hints along the way.

On a royal walkabout in Birkhead, England, the new mom told a royal wellwisher her due date was around late April or early May.

Baby Sussex is the eighth great-grandchild for Queen Elizabeth and Prince Phillip, and the fourth grandchild for Prince Charles. The baby counts Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis as cousins!
