Princess Diana's Met Gala look is one of the most iconic of all time

Updated

The Met Gala, which happens every year on the first Monday in May, is undoubtedly fashion's biggest night. So it's no surprise that one of history's biggest fashion icons, Princess Diana, once attended the Met Gala herself.

Princess Di's sole Met Gala appearance was in 1996, and to say she looked stunning would be an understatement! The late royal dazzled in a navy slip dress with black lace trim from John Galliano's first couture collection for Dior. Diana perfectly accessorized the lingerie-inspired gown with a Dior mini bag and a stunning array of sapphire jewels (no doubt from her own personal collection) adorning her neck, ears, arms and fingers.

It's clear that Diana was ahead of her time when it came to fashion -- slip dresses have recently been blowing up on our Instagram feeds but it turns out Diana was rocking the style years before it became trendy.
