Top ten predicted names for Meghan and Harry's baby, Baby Sussex

Updated

What's in a name? Well, for the British royal family, everything.

The Windsors take their monikers very, very seriously, using names as an opportunity to honor their lineage. Many monikers (and titles, for that matter) are rotated throughout the royal family -- like Albert, George and Mary. And these names often come with three or four middle names.

Take Prince Charles, who was born as Charles Philip Arthur George. The name Charles has been popular for European royalty since Roman times. He was named Philip as a nod to his father, Prince Philip, and Arthur in reference to his grandfather's middle name. George was included as a reference to George VI and George, which is the given name or middle name for many past family members.

Prince William also has three middle names (Arthur Philip Louis) and Prince George only has two (Alexander Louis) -- see the pattern?

So, as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex prepare for their first child, due later this spring, everyone's wondering if the couple will follow in tradition. And although Meghan has been known for her protocol-pushing approach to royalty, and since Baby Sussex isn't in direct line to the throne (he or she will be seventh in line, behind Prince Harry), bookies still expect the Sussexes to follow in the family's footsteps.

According to Oddshecker, a website that complies odds from multiple sites, royal fans predict the baby to be a girl, with 7 out of the 10 names traditionally given to females. Scroll through above to see all the top 10 most popular predictions for Baby Sussex.
