Royal baby watch: Meghan Markle's maternity team reportedly placed on standby

We're officially on royal baby watch as the world awaits the arrival of Baby Sussex.

According to reports, the Duchess of Sussex's maternity team at NHS Frimley Park Hospital in Surrey has been placed on standby. The update comes after weeks of speculation as to when the royal will give birth and where.

“It won’t be long now. Meghan’s really excited," a source told the Sun. "Of course she’s nervous like any first-time mum but she and Harry can’t wait.” Markle was reportedly due on Sunday, April 28 and has been at home at Frogmore Cottage until she goes into labor, says the publication.

“When she goes into labour, she wants to remain at home for as long as possible but she’s in a situation where if something did go wrong and she had to be whisked to hospital, she would be," said an insider of the couple's plans.

It was also recently reported that the Sussexes chose Frimley Park Hospital over the royal-loved Lindo Wing, where Princess Diana and Duchess Kate both gave birth to their children. Frimley is only a 30-minute drive from Meghan and Harry's new home at Frogmore Cottage on the grounds of Windsor Castle, where the couple moved in March.

The 37-year-old royal has been adamant about keeping details of the birth private, including forgoing labor updates and photos of the baby's arrival on the hospital steps.

"Their Royal Highnesses have taken a personal decision to keep the plans around the arrival of their baby private. The Duke and Duchess look forward to sharing the exciting news with everyone once they have had an opportunity to celebrate privately as a new family," Kensington Palace said in a statement in mid-April.
