Pitbull given away by owners for being 'too nice' is up for adoption

A pitbull who was given away by her owners due to her sweet disposition is now up for adoption at an Orlando, Fla., animal shelter.

Officials at Orange County Animal Services told WKMG that a dog named Ruby was recently surrendered to the shelter due to her good behavior.

The pup, a brindle-and-white pitbull who is just over a year old and weighs 73 pounds, knows general obedience commands, is housebroken and is friendly with men and women, according to the shelter.

To most pet lovers, she sounds like a dream.

However, her adoptive owners were apparently looking for more of a "guard dog," and complained that Ruby was “too nice" and "didn’t bark" enough for their liking. They dropped her off at the local shelter, where news of her unusual story spread quickly.

Photos of Ruby shared on Facebook drummed up quite a bit of interest — one post about her predicament racked up over 2,000 shares and more than 600 reactions.

Ruby has been spayed by the shelter and will be available for adoption Friday. Those who may be interested in adopting her or another animal can visit the Orange County Animal Services's website.
